A splash of positive thinking

We all know that coloring is fun. By now we’ve learnt that coloring is also a tool to boost our mental health and promote well-being.
In today’s printable mermaid coloring book, I combined the joy of coloring with the power of positive thinking. While coloring, kids can reflect on their own positive thoughts, aspirations, or affirmations, and by that cultivate optimism and self-belief. This coloring book is perfect as a quiet activity for travels or rainy days, and also as a way to soothe stress, anxiety and insecurities.

Before we head on to the printable files, I should add something important. Positive thinking can do wonders to our state of mind, but that’s not to say that negative thoughts are forbidden. Sometimes we have unpleasant thought or feelings, and it’s ok to let them stay for a bit before we are ready to move on. Positive thinking doesn’t necessarily overwrites the unpleasant thoughts, but rather gives us a better lookout, or simply some encouragement. So please don’t push yourself (or others) to be positive by force. Let’s appreciate our wide range of emotions and handle our feelings with care ♥

How to assemble the coloring book:

1. First, print out the 6 pages PDF file. I recommend printing the interior pages on plain white paper and the cover on thick cardstock.

2. Cut out each page of the coloring book.

3. Fold each page in the middle (the middle is marked with small lines).

If the cover is thicker and harder to fold, you can score it first.
To score, place a ruler along the middle of the cover (marked with a dashed line), and brush gently with the dull edge of a butter knife to create a soft crease. Then fold it.

4. Stack the interior pages in the order you want them to be, then add the cover

5. Before you staple the coloring book, make sure all the pages are aligned and in the right orientation.

6. Lay the coloring book open, facing down, and staple the spine.

If your stapler doesn’t reach the spine of your book, you can use this trick:

place the book facing down on Styrofoam block.
Spread your stapler open and staple the book at the spine, letting the staples penetrate the foamboard beneath.

Pull the coloring book up and remove the Styrofoam.
Bend the staples inward with the back of your stapler, or with another strong object.

Your mermaid coloring book is ready!
