Back to School Craft: Build Your Own Classroom!

Here’s a fun and creative craft to warm up for going back to school: Make your own classroom!

With this free printable craft, kids can make their own paper classroom — walls, decorations, teacher, students, and more — and arrange it any way they like. It’s a bit like those old vinyl sticker playsets, but with scissors, glue, and coloring.

The School Year is in Your Hands

The printable classroom craft is easy to make and leaves plenty of space for personal choices. All the parts are on the free template: the classroom’s walls, the characters, decorations, and even the school’s entrance to complete the scene.

Kids can set up the classroom and customize it however they like using the cut-and-paste items.

The finished classroom opens and closes like a window. The inside shows the classroom interior, and the outside shows the school entrance. It stands upright on a table like a 3D model — perfect for display or pretend play!Make your own classroom with this free printable back to school craft for kids! Just print, color, cut, and glue. Includes teacher, students, and decorations. A fun and creative paper craft to help kids get ready for school.

Going back to school can feel like a lot, especially for younger kids. Sometimes it helps to ease into the change with a playful introduction where they can explore the setting on their own terms.

Why not start by designing their own classroom, exploring what’s inside, and imagining what it feels like to walk in? It turns the idea of a classroom into something fun and familiar — a space they’ve already shaped themselves.

How to Make Your Classroom:

1. Print the classroom craft template on white cardstock (regular paper works too, but thicker paper is sturdier and keeps the colors from showing through).

2. Color all the parts. For the classroom and school walls, try to match the colors where the pieces connect — you can see how they line up in steps 4 and 5.

3. Cut out the pieces: the classroom’s main wall, two side walls, two outside walls, and all the decorations and characters.

4. Glue the side walls to the main wall, using the glue tabs. Align the edges of the side walls with the dashed lines.

5. Fold the side walls inward along the dashed line.

6. Glue the school’s outside walls behind the classroom’s side walls. Just check the order first — the doors and the “SCHOOL” sign should line up.

Gluing the school’s exterior panels to the back of the classroom’s side walls — forming the outside of the paper school craft.

Now the classroom’s structure is complete and ready to be customized:

7. Decorate!  Add the teacher, students, books, and other items wherever you like.

Don’t forget to decorate the school’s entrance, too. Try different arrangements and make it your own!

Kids can add decorations to the school's entrence too. The paper classroom craft opens up like a card and can stand on a desk for display.

That’s it! Your DIY paper classroom is ready. You can leave it open on a table for display or close it like a little book for someone to open and discover.
