The Purim Story to Read and Color is a children’s Purim coloring book that tells the story of Esther through short, easy-to-read text and unique illustrations to color.
I originally published it as a printable coloring book on Etsy, intended for printing easily at home. Over time, I also wanted to offer a physical version, for those who prefer a ready-made book.
I’m happy to share the physical paperback, which has a colorful cover and two additional illustrated coloring pages, and is available worldwide through Amazon.

A Purim Coloring Book That Tells the Full Story
The Purim Story to Read and Color retells the Book of Esther in clear, simple sentences designed especially for young readers. Each spread includes a short section of text alongside an original illustration to color, making it easy for children to follow the story at their own pace.
As kids read and color, they meet all the central characters of the Purim story: Queen Esther, Mordecai, King Ahasuerus, wicked Haman, and even a few characters you might have forgotten – Bigtan and Teresh (the palace guards), and Haman’s cunning wife.

Carefully Designed, Easy to Enjoy
When I worked on this book, accuracy mattered to me just as much as creativity. I researched the Purim story in both English and Hebrew sources to make sure the retelling stays true to tradition, while still being easy for children to understand.
The illustrations were carefully planned to balance detail and simplicity, so they’re enjoyable to color without feeling overwhelming. Some pages include more details, others leave more open space for kids to make the images their own. The goal was to create a Purim coloring book that feels thoughtful, aesthetic, and inviting.
If you’re looking for a Purim gift idea that isn’t just candy, this book fits naturally into the holiday.
- It works beautifully as a standalone Purim gift
- It’s easy to add to a mishloach manot basket
- It’s meaningful while still light and entertaining
- It covers up the Purim story and traditions
- It offers a calm Purim activity kids can enjoy between parties, events, and celebrations.

The Purim Background in One Place
On Purim, many people read the Book of Esther in synagogue – but not every family experiences the Jewish holiday that way. For those who celebrate Purim in a lighter, everyday way, finding an accessible way to share the story with kids can take a bit more thought.
The Purim Story to Read and Color brings the story, the holiday traditions, and their meaning together in one place, helping children see how the events of the Purim story connect to the way it is celebrated today. It’s an easy way to make sure kids have the background before the costumes, parties, and noise begin.
