Well hello there, crafty people! Guess who was having a blast with the first heat wave of the year? That’s right, it’s your sun-loving critter who blossoms when everybody else sweats 🙋♀️🌸
For this excitingly warm week, I prepared a new free printable craft that represents the seasonal transition: It’s an interactive paper tree that brings nature to life! With moving tabs, opening windows and a spinning wheel, you’ll summon spring into the picture.

Tree of Spring – a Printable Spring Craft
What you’ll need:
- This printable Tree of Spring craft template
- Scissors
- Coloring tools
- Split pin
- Glue
Step 1: Begin by coloring the printable template. For a cohesive look, match the cocoon’s background color to the tree top and color the squirrel consistently for both its sleeping and awake states.
Step 2: Carefully cut out all the template parts. This includes making round holes in the tree trunk and in the tree top for the interactive elements.
Step 3: On the tree trunk’s front part, fold the tabs backwards.
Step 4: Apply glue to the folded tabs on the tree trunk’s front part and also to the designated glue area on the back part, where the squirrel image is.
Step 5: Carefully align the tree trunk’s back part behind the front, ensuring the edges match perfectly. Make sure the squirrel image is correctly positioned to be visible through the hole in the trunk’s front part.
Step 6: Slide the ‘sliding tab’ between the two trunk parts.
Step 7: Position the wheel behind the tree top. Insert a split pin through the black center dots in both the wheel and the tree top, connecting the two parts together while allowing the wheel to rotate freely.
Step 8: For the bird’s wing, fold its tab forward. Apply glue to this tab’s backside, then press it to the specified ‘glue’ area above the bird.
Step 9: Fold the tab of the cocoon flap forward and apply glue to the back of the tab. Attach the tab to its designated ‘glue’ spot next to the butterfly, aligning the pattern on the cocoon part with the pattern of the tree top behind it.
What You’ve Created:
Your Interactive spring tree is now full of springtime surprises. Spin the wheel to cycle through various spring symbols in the tree top window. Move the sliding tab in the tree trunk to awaken the squirrel from its winter sleep. Discover a hidden butterfly behind the cocoon flap and reveal eggs under the bird’s wing.
